Le monde est continu, mais l'esprit est discret.

La logique n'a pratiquement rien à voir avec la façon dont nous pensons.

Je pense que les mathématiques peuvent bénéficier en reconnaissant que la création de bons modèles est tout aussi importante que de prouver des théorèmes profonds.

L'art vit sur le plan mental (la vraie peinture n'est pas l'ensemble de pigments secs sur la toile ni une symphonie la séquence d'ondes sonores qui la véhiculent à notre oreille) mais, comme le soulignent les post-modernistes, est réinterprétée dans de nouveaux contextes par chaque appréciateur. Quant au commérage, qui comprend la grande majorité de nos pensées, son essence est sa relation à une partie locale unique du temps et de l'espace.

La géométrie algébrique semble avoir acquis la réputation d'être ésotérique, exclusive et très abstraite, avec des adeptes qui complotent secrètement pour s'emparer de tout le reste des mathématiques. À un égard, ce dernier point est exact.

Je suis habitué, en tant que mathématicien professionnel, à vivre dans une sorte de vide, entouré de personnes qui déclarent avec une étrange sorte de fierté qu'ils sont mathématiquement analphabètes.
