La grande prolifération des musées au XIXe siècle a été le produit du mariage de l'exposition comme moyen d'éveiller l'intérêt intelligent pour le visiteur avec la croissance des collections associées à l'empire et à la richesse de la classe moyenne. La fréquentation des musées était autant associée à l'amélioration morale qu'à l'explication du monde humain ou naturel.

Une vie accumule une collection : de personnes, de travail et de perplexités. Nous sommes tous nos propres conservateurs.

Les musées n'ont pas de pouvoir politique, mais ils ont la possibilité d'influencer le processus politique. Il s'agit d'un changement complet par rapport à leur rôle dans les premiers jours de collection et de thésaurisation du monde à l'utilisation des collections comme archive pour un monde en mutation. Ce rôle n'est pas simplement scientifiquement important, mais c'est aussi une nécessité culturelle.

Je me demande si nous voyons un retour à l'objet dans le musée scientifique. Étant donné que tout visiteur peut aller dans un film comme Jurassic Park et voir les dinosaures rééquanouis plus graphiquement que n'importe quel musée ne pourrait imiter, peut-être qu'un musée devrait être l'endroit où avoir une rencontre avec la vérité osseuse. Peut-être que certains enfants ont surdosé des simulations sur leurs ordinateurs à la maison et veulent juste voir quelque chose de solide - une réalité.

Vous ne devez pas mentir sur les trilobites, ni le temps.

Je crois profondément à l'importance des musées; J'irais jusqu'à dire que vous pouvez juger une société par la qualité de ses musées.
