Créé en 1993 par l’artiste allemand Martin Kippenberger, le MOMAS (Museum of Modern Art Syros) est un musée d’artiste ouvert jusqu’en 1996 et situé sur l’île de Syros dans les Cyclades. Installé dans un bâtiment inachevé, Kippenberger y invitait ses amis artistes à y faire des projets et à y déposer des oeuvres. Véritable critique de l’institution muséale, le MOMAS a fait l’objet de plans et de maquettes qui appartiennent à la collection du MAMCO. Ce livre est la première étude de l’ensemble des archives et des documents relatifs au MOMAS. L’ouvrage contient également des entretiens inédits avec plusieurs des artistes invités par Kippenberger à participer à son musée.
