La communauté noire de Washington a pu réussir au-delà de ses rêves les plus fous. Je veux dire, nous avions nos propres journaux, nos propres restaurants, nos propres théâtres, nos propres petits magasins, nos propres clubs, nos propres lodges maçonniques.

Il existe un moyen de considérer les vêtements comme votre peau extérieure. Et parce que vous avez été victime de discrimination à cause de votre teint, la façon dont vous pouviez surmonter cela à travers la manière dont vous vous êtes présenté vos vêtements.

Les gens devraient avoir le choix de pouvoir vivre où ils veulent vivre, aller à l'école où ils veulent aller à l'école, épouser qui ils veulent épouser, quel que soit leur teint et ainsi de suite.

Lorsque vous dites que vous êtes un homme de course, cela signifie que vous embrassez toute la communauté noire, quelle que soit la teinte, que quelqu'un soit très léger et que vous puissiez passer pour peut-être blanc ou que quelqu'un soit très sombre.

La communauté noire maintenant à bien des égards se divisait comme la plus grande communauté blanche se divise, sur les questions de classe. Et cette course n'est plus le lien qu'il était autrefois. C'est l'un des prix que vous payez pour les progrès.
