 Durant son enfance, elle n'a ri que deux fois et souri que quatre.  le reste du temps, elle a pleurniché, geint, gémi, râlé, protesté, sous prétexte que tout n'était pas absolument parfait.  ensuite, elle s'est mise à tomber malade au moindre courant d'air et à provoquer des catastrophes. 
Bref, lorelei est pénible.  une véritable chichiteuse.  une enquiquineuse de première, oui! pense trudy, sa gouvernante, qui a beaucoup de mal à la supporter, et qui envisage même de se débarrasser d'elle en la perdant au fond des bois, comme font les parents dans les contes classiques.

Mais il faut croire qu'au royaume de biddle, il y a un bon dieu pour les enfants gâtées.  car au fond des bois, lorelei rencontre le prince nicolas.  ses parents veulent le marier à une vraie princesse.  lorelei n'est que la fille du forgeron, certes, mais elle a des caprices de star, des délicatesses d'héritière du trône, des bégueuleries de miss biddle.  tant et si bien qu'il se pourrait que parmi soixante-dix-neuf candidates, ce soit elle qui gagne le concours de princesses.
