Dans un bistrot plutôt sordide de Chelsea, l'écrivain mark Easterbrook surprend la bagarre de deux jeunes filles - pas des plus distinguées - en train de se crêper le chignon. L'une d'elle " pleine de fric ", paraît-il, s'appelle Thomasina Tuckerton.
A quelque temps de là, sous les yeux de Mark Easterbrook tombe un entrefilet : Thomasina Tuckerton est décédée à l'âge de vingt ans.
