Résumé
Few 20th century composers focussed their creative energies as thoroughly on the renewal of musical theatre as Kurt Weill. Three years before his death he wrote retrospectively : "Since realising, at the age of 19, that the musical theatre is my proper domain, I have consistently tried to solve the formal problems of musical theatre in my own way. " A perusal of Weill's writings clearly shows the continuity in his artistic endeavours throughout his different creative phases and changes of environment (Germany, France, USA). The companion CD contains several previously unpublished recordings of the composer's voice.
