Maison Autrique was designed by Victor Horta as a private home for Eugène Autrique and built in Brussels in 1893. It was Horta's first landmark building and is now considered to be an important element in the architectonic legacy of Belgium. It represents an essential phase in the evolution of the most important architect to stem from Belgium. Secondly because this building has undergone an exemplary restauration which leads to a better understanding of the birth of Art Nouveau.The restoration plan, designed by Francois Schuiten and Benoit Peeters, intended to make the building into a 'house of houses': a tribute to the private architecture of Brussels, and an ode to the imagination. The project was completed in 2004.
