Né en Belgique en 1959, Francis Alys compte parmi les artistes contemporains les plus éminents au monde. Après avoir étudié l'architecture à Venise, il s'installe en 1986 à Mexico, où il vit depuis lors. Alys travaille à des projets dont l'échelle varie du simple dessin à la création d'événements spectaculaires impliquant des centaines de participants, et utilise différentes techniques dont la vidéo, la photographie, la peinture et la performance. Proposant un essai introductif de Mark Godfrey ainsi que le commentaire par Alys et Cuauhtémoc Medina sur plus de soixante oeuvres majeures, cet ouvrage comporte également un répertoire de citations de l'artiste ainsi que des essais relatifs à son travail dus à des auteurs internationaux parmi lesquels des artistes, des critiques, des poètes et des théoriciens urbains.

European law, including both civil law and common law, has gone through several major phases of expansion in the world. European legal history thus also is a history of legal transplants and cultural borrowings, which national legal histories as products of nineteenth-century historicism have until recently largely left unconsidered. The Oxford Handbook of European Legal History supplies its readers with an overview of the different phases of European legal history in the light of today's state-of-the-art research, by offering cutting-edge views on research questions currently emerging in international discussions. The Handbook takes a broad approach to its subject matter both nationally and systemically. Unlike traditional European legal histories, which tend to concentrate on "heartlands" of Europe (notably Italy and Germany), the Europe of the Handbook is more versatile and nuanced, taking into consideration the legal developments in Europe's geographical and cultural "fringes" such as Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and the Americas.

The annual Hyundai Commission gives artists an opportunity to create new work for this unique context.

For the 2021 Hyundai Commission, Anicka Yi will create her largest and most ambitious project to date. Born in South Korea and now living and working in New York, Yi is a conceptual artist known for installations that engage the senses, especially the sense of smell, and for her collaborations with biologists and chemists. In previous artworks she has used an astonishing array of materials and scents to explore questions of technology, identity and labour. Her work draws from the research of philosophers who are concerned with emerging forms of life and intelligence, while also addressing questions around migration, class and gender.

Made in collaboration with the artist, the publication includes an enlightening interview about the commission, a section in which Yi poses intriguing questions to leading thinkers and experts from the many fields that have influenced her thinking, and a specially commissioned short story by writer Elvia Wilk. This is the latest volume in a major series that explores the conception and creation of each commission as well as offering an overview of in the artist's work and career leading up to the latest ground-breaking installation.

Gerhard Richter (né en 1932) est unanimement considéré comme l'un des plus importants peintres encore en activité et a exposé dans les plus grandes institutions du monde.

Connu tant pour ses tableaux figuratifs inspirés de la photographie que pour ses peintures abstraites, Richter associe de manière inédite des éléments empruntés à ses deux champs artistiques.

Publié à l'occasion de la vaste exposition rétrospective Gerhard Richter, fruit d'une collaboration entre la Tate Modern à Londres et la Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Museen à Berlin et le Centre Pompidou à Paris, ce catalogue embrasse toute la carrière de l'artiste allemand. Réunissant les contributions de conservateurs et d'historiens de l'art, un nouvel entretien avec l'artiste et près de 300 reproductions, il constitue l'ouvrage le plus complet sur l'oeuvre exceptionnelle de Richter.

Présentant pour la première fois en France le travail de Laura Owens, cette exposition exceptionnelle regroupera notamment des toiles de l'artiste américaine réalisées spécialement pour l'occasion. Ces oeuvres sont élaborées comme des réponses, des éléments d'un dialogue engagé avec les huit tableaux du maître néerlandais également exposés, provenant d'institutions telles que le Guggenheim de New York ou le Musée d'art de Boston. Laura Owens fait partie des rares peintres contemporains à faire le lien entre son propre travail et les peintures tardives de Vincent van Gogh. Celui-ci est apparu pour la première fois dans Untitled (1997 - présenté dans l'exposition) ; cette toile, représentant des oiseaux noirs au-dessus d'un paysage marin, fait explicitement écho au Champ de blé aux corbeaux (1890) de Van Gogh et appartient dorénavant à collection permanente du Whitney Museum. La pratique de Laura Owens est influencée par l'histoire de l'art et la culture populaire, les paysages japonais ou encore la broderie artisanale, qu'elle utilise pour développer de nouvelles formes, motifs, images et techniques. Articulées en plusieurs couches, ses peintures oscillent entre le pastiche et l'abstraction. Ce catalogue présente les nouvelles productions de l'artiste ainsi que des textes originaux explorant de sa pratique irrévérencieuse et éclectique. Premier ouvrage en français consacré à Laura Owens, cette publication se veut également une référence pour découvrir une peintre dont le renom outre-Atlantique est retentissant.
