Résumé
Instead of 300 pages as described there are 97. This is a trade paper and not a mass market format. The first English translation of Victor Hugo's masterpiece Les Misérables was published in 1862. The texts of all currently available abridged English versions rely very heavily on this 1862 translation and are difficult to understand. This new translation by Helen Mailhot attempts to provide a more current and contemporary text in order to make the work more accessible to today's readers. This new version includes all the characters and all the subplots that weave into the main story. This translation follows the original version in the sequence of events and remains faithful to the intent, structure and style of Victor Hugo's work.
