On y trouve des passages aussi fameux que le portrait du tyran de Sparte, Nabis, la campagne de Scipion en Afrique, l'histoire des revolutions de l'Egypte, ou la resistance follement heroique d'Abydos face a Philippe V. Le principe suivi dans l'etablissement du texte est de s'en tenir, dans toute la mesure du possible.
