Résumé
Edward Elgar wrote great symphonic works for solo instruments with orchestral accompaniment, but also chamber music works and occasional works, especially for the violin : for example 'Salut d'amour' or 'Chant de nuit'. This series also includes 'La Capricieuse' composed in 1891. The trained violinist Elgar knew how to write a capricious, or even 'petulant' music piece which lives up to the name of 'Capricieuse'. Although the charming miniature cannot compete with the popularity of 'Pomp and Circumstance', one can hardly imagine a more fitting setting for this great virtuosic piece than as an encore piece after a challenging concert evening. Instrumentation : violin and piano op. 17
