Résumé
The Sonata in D major (Hob. XVI : 37) is one of Joseph Haydn's best-known and most frequently played piano sonatas. The sparklingly brilliant first movement, the brooding and archaic undertones in the short largo as well as the typically Haydnesque cadences in the finale make this piece an excellent educational work that even more experienced music enthusiasts love to play. The Wiener Urtext Edition has now published a separate edition, based on Ulrich Leisinger's newly revised version of the Christa Landon edition. Essential aspects of performance practice are given in the notes on interpretation by Robert D. Levin. Instrumentation : piano Hob. XVI : 37
