Résumé
Excerpt from Du théâtre au champ d'honneurMarc Bertrand, a young French soldier, slowly regains consciousness. It is 6 a.m., and during the previous day the Germans had fought furiously for the possession of the wood near by. He is wounded and barched with thirst but anxiously searches for the flag which he was clutching when he was shot down. How did it all happen Gradually he remembers that his Colonel and his cousin were killed soon afterwards his father, {proudly bearing the colours of his Regiment, fell beside his comrades. Gleefully a German sprang forward but only to find Bertrand standing ready to defend the flag and avenge his father's death. After a severe struggle the Hun was sent staggering backwards mortally wounded, and Bertrand recaptured the flag - dearer to him than life itself. What did he do with it - what happened next? He tries to think, but his memory is a blank.
