Résumé

Of Sade's characters, Justine remains one of the most able to embody the humane in its most fragile, and especially ambivalent way. And it is so that three different books dedicated to Justine were written by the author. The book presented here, The Misfortunes of Virtue, is the first part of this trilogy. In publishng again this text the editor sheds new light on issues like power and sexuality, very dear to Sade. We discover that behind the appearances of virtue, emerges a heroine whose victimization is not a vain role. Thanks to Justine, the author invites the reader to rethink the terms of vice and virtue, and opens new horizons for those trapped in a usually considered a corrupt century .This same corruption Sade seems to have shared with many of his characters. Unloved, criticized, adored, these are feelings usually evoked when talking about the Marquis de Sade. However, it is often through ignorance that we talk about the author and his work. Indeed, behind the eroticism whose primary role is to denounce the humane , another literature exists, that deserves to emerge from the shadows .Because there is no sexuality in Sade that does not bring literary creation.
