Résumé

This photographer's work is imbued with a personal style that enables identification of her signature in every one of her images. It is based on research and exploration of the human body, first by a focus on dance and then through social commentary. The human geography, shown as art, reveals the worlds concealed behind skin and eyes. A daring, risk-taking reporter, Munoz has been awarded the World Press Photo Prize on two occasions (in 2000 for a photograph of the monks in the Shaolin Temple, and in 2004 for a photo from her series on the Surma people in Ethiopia). She received the Community of Madrid's Photography Prize in 2006 and the Merit in Fine Art Medal in 2010. A resident of Madrid, she has had numerous solo exhibitions since 1986 and is a very active photojournalist. The third volume of La Fabrica's Obras Maestras (Masterpieces) Collection tells the story of Isabel Munoz by reproducing more than 220 photographs that in many cases have never been published or are little known. It also includes a selection of photos from the features that she has published in Europe's major printed media, which were compiled from her archive specifically for this book. The anises art and life are revealed upon reading these 400 pages thanks to critical essays by Gérard Macé, Alain Mingam and Christian Caujolle, an excellent interview conducted by Eduardo Momene and a detailed illustrated chronology written by Lola Huete Machado.
